Juan Soto breaks slump with key double in Mets' victory over Dodgers

New York,. — Dominican Juan Soto rediscovered his timely bat by hitting a two-run double with the bases loaded, which proved key in the New York Mets' 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers this Saturday at Citi Field. With this result, the Mets avenged the 2024 National League Championship Series.

Soto, who was going through a difficult offensive slump with runners in scoring position, broke the bad moment with a resounding hit to right-center field in the fourth inning, reversing a 0-2 deficit. The hit was part of a three-run rally that led to the metropolitan victory.

David Peterson (3-2) was one of the figures of the game, matching his personal best with 7.2 innings pitched, in which he struck out eight, including Japanese star Shohei Ohtani on three occasions. The lefty allowed only five hits and two earned runs. Edwin Díaz earned the save with a perfect four-out performance, including three strikeouts.

Brett Baty also shined from the bottom of the offensive order, with three hits and two RBIs. The young third baseman added a run-scoring double in the eighth inning to secure the lead.

The Mets, who had lost the first game of the series in 13 innings, found the necessary response in their key players, with a Soto who is beginning to regain his level after the adjustments in the lineup that placed him as the third batter.
