Santo Domingo.– Magistrate Fátima Veloz, a figure in high-profile judicial cases in the country, not only authorized the RD$50 million bail for the Espaillat brothers in the Jet Set case, but was also responsible for granting parole to the American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine after his arrest in January 2024 for alleged domestic violence in the Dominican Republic
According to the Diario Libre portal, Judge Veloz, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District, imposed on Tekashi an economic guarantee of 30,000 pesos, as well as periodic presentation every two months and the obligation to participate in behavioral talks, while issuing a reciprocal protection order for the victim. You may be interested in: Prosecutor Rosalba Ramos lashes out at judge Fátima Veloz for not jailing Espaillat
This case provoked the reaction of the Public Ministry, which appealed the measure considering that the judge "violated the victim's right" and minimized the risk of the singer fleeing, who, according to the prosecutors, had a history of violence and potential dangerousness. However, the Court of Appeals confirmed the decision, arguing that the evidence occurred outside the country and did not support a deprivation of liberty. Both processes have generated public debates about the scope of parole and the application of financial guarantees in the Dominican judicial system.
