Police kill alleged antisocial "El Mello" after confrontation in SFM; a sergeant is injured

San Francisco de Macorís. – The National Police reported this Thursday that a well-known antisocial, identified as Carlos Manuel Hurtado José, alias “El Mello”, was shot dead after allegedly confronting a police patrol that was trying to arrest him in this city, in an incident in which a sergeant of the institution was also injured. According to the preliminary report, the 34-year-old individual was actively sought through arrest warrant number 01001-2018. During the intervention, an armed confrontation occurred that left the police officer with several gunshot wounds, for which he was transferred to a health center, where he is receiving medical attention. The officer's name was omitted for security reasons.

The Police indicated that Hurtado José was injured during the exchange and later died while receiving medical attention at a health center. At the scene, the authorities seized a pistol with the brand and numbering filed off, presumably used by the deceased. According to police files, "El Mello" was listed with at least seven records for the commission of various criminal acts, which classified him as a highly dangerous antisocial. The Public Ministry of the corresponding jurisdiction assumed the investigation of the case, in order to clarify the circumstances in which the event occurred and determine the responsibilities involved, in accordance with the established legal procedures.
