Santo Domingo.-The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, expressed his support for the measures of austerity adopted by the Dominican government and assured that the political class must also make sacrifices in the face of the complex international economic landscape.
During his speech at the Second National Retail Business Convention 2026, the official stated that, although these decisions are not popular, they are necessary to guarantee the country's economic stability. "Politicians also have to make sacrifices... we must tighten our belts as much as possible," he said.
Sanz Lovatón explained that the austerity plan will allow for an approximate saving of 40 billion pesos, resources that are being used to maintain the stability of fuel prices and to subsidize fertilizers, as part of a strategy to mitigate the impact of inflation.
