'
The Devil Wears Prada 2' debuted with
233.6 million dollars at the worldwide box office and became the
second best premiere of the year, displacing
Michael from the first place in
North America.
The sequel from 20th Century Studios and Disney grossed $77 million in the United States and Canada, while in international markets it added $156.6 million, exceeding the studio's initial projections.
The figure obtained in its first weekend already represents 72% of what the original film achieved throughout its theatrical run, when it reached $326.5 million globally.
Analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Comscore called the result "a really solid weekend" and assured that the film managed to capture the audience despite the absence of a major Marvel premiere at the beginning of the summer season.
The film premiered in 4,150 North American theaters. PostTrak data indicates that 76% of the audience was female and that 74% said they would recommend the film. In addition, it obtained an A- rating on CinemaScore, improving on the B achieved by the first installment.
In second place was
Michael, the biopic of Michael Jackson directed by Antoine Fuqua and distributed by Lionsgate, which added $54 million in its second week and has accumulated $423.9 million worldwide.
The new installment, again directed by David Frankel, brings together Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci in a story set in the transformation of the publishing and fashion world.
The production budget amounted to 100 million dollars, far exceeding the 35 million of the original film. Frankel explained that much of the increase was due to the star cast that returned for the sequel.
The film also set personal records for Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, becoming the biggest global opening of their careers. Italy topped the international box office with $16.6 million, driven by scenes filmed in Milan and the participation of Lady Gaga.
The film debuted in first place in most international markets and its promotional campaign also broke records: the first trailer accumulated 185 million views in 24 hours, being the most watched of 20th Century Studios in 2025.
