Smuggling of more than 433,000 cigarette units seized in Jimaní

Jimani. – Personnel from the Dominican Republic Army seized 433,400 units of Capital brand cigarettes and arrested a truck driver during an interdiction operation carried out at the military checkpoint known as El Indio, in the province of Independencia. The illicit merchandise was seized in a Mitsubishi truck, white in color, license plate L193139, driven by the Dominican citizen Ravel de Jesús Pérez Cuevas, resident of Tierra Nueva, Independencia province. Upon searching the vehicle, members of the ERD found 2,167 packets of cigarettes, equivalent to 21,670 packs, of 20 units each, hidden in metallic compartments designed in the upper part of the truck's van.

The truck driver will be sent before the authorities of the Public Ministry, while the seized merchandise was transferred to the headquarters of the 14th. Infantry Battalion, ERD, for the corresponding legal process.
