Washington - The United States announced this Wednesday the closure of the consulate general in Peshawar, Pakistan, due to the risk to the security of diplomatic personnel. The State Department has explained in a statement that there will be a "gradual closure" that will transfer diplomatic relations with the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the US embassy in Islamabad. US authorities have indicated that the decision responds to the need to protect diplomatic personnel and ensure the safe operation of their missions in the Asian country, where an increase in instability has been recorded in recent months.
