Samaná.- Hundreds of citizens mobilized this weekend through the main streets of Las Terrenas to demand the urgent intervention of the Caño Seco River and the application of sanctions against those who continue to dump debris and solid waste on the beaches and streams of the municipality.
The massive march brought together community members, social leaders, representatives of neighborhood associations, and environmental defenders, who carried banners and chanted slogans in defense of the municipality's natural resources. The participants denounced that the deterioration of the river has reached alarming levels and that the lack of controls has allowed this illegal practice to continue without consequences. During the demonstration, citizens insisted that the indiscriminate dumping of waste affects the natural course of the river, increases pollution, and endangers public health and the tourist image of Las Terrenas, one of the most important destinations in the Northeast region. You can also read: Environment intervenes in wastewater discharge in Las Terrenas after citizen complaint Protesters called on the Ministry of Environment, the mayor's office, and the responsible institutions to implement an immediate rescue plan, as well as establish a firm regime of consequences against those who violate environmental regulations.
