Santiago.-Two men linked to the theft of about US$400,000 in cryptocurrencies from a foreign citizen voluntarily surrendered to the National Police, which is actively searching for a third involved person, the institution reported this Friday. The detainees were identified as Iván Arturo Leguizamón Contrera, 32 years old, and José Iguel Chicón Pérez, alias “El Flaco”, 22, both with arrest warrants for their alleged participation in the assault that occurred in October 2025 in the Gurabo sector. The case, which involves the use of digital platforms to finalize the transaction, gains relevance due to the criminal modality: a cryptocurrency negotiation coordinated through Telegram that resulted in a violent robbery. According to the police report, the victim, Slovak citizen Robert Orsos, went to an apartment in Gurabo after agreeing to sell USDT. Once there, he was intercepted by several armed individuals, who threatened him, tied him up, and forced him to unlock his mobile phone.

From the device, the attackers transferred the funds —equivalent to about US$400,000 in cryptocurrencies— to different digital platforms, before leaving the country in Bonao. Orsos presented injuries that required 15 days of medical incapacity, according to the report. The Police indicated that the third suspect, Joan Carlos Mitanda Furcal, alias "Chapito", remains at large, so they urged the public to collaborate with any information that facilitates his capture. The detainees will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, while investigations continue into this case that highlights the growing use of digital assets in criminal schemes in the country
