Santo Domingo. – In the framework of its firm mission to confront and dismantle drug trafficking networks, agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in coordination with members of the Public Ministry, seized 93 packages presumably of cocaine during a simultaneous operation carried out in the vicinity of the Punta Cana International Airport, La Altagracia province, and in the municipality of Santo Domingo Oeste.
First Interdiction – Punta Cana
The operational units, under the coordination of prosecutors, pursued a Ghangan brand vehicle, model Boot X7 Plus, white in color, whose driver, according to intelligence reports, would be part of a criminal network dedicated to drug trafficking. Upon the intervention of the vehicle on Boulevard del Mar Street, near the Punta Cana terminal, a suitcase was seized containing two backpacks with 29 packages of alleged cocaine. In addition, a cell phone, a vehicle license plate, a passport, and other documents of interest for the investigation were seized.Second Interdiction – Santo Domingo Oeste
Following up on the operation, agents stationed in Gran Santo Domingo set up surveillance on another individual traveling on the Duarte highway. The vehicle was intercepted at kilometer 22, near the entrance to the La Cuaba road. By order of the acting prosecutor, the inspection of the automobile was carried out, finding three secret compartments (caches) in the front seats and in the rear of a Kia Sorento jeep. Inside, 64 packages of alleged cocaine were seized, as well as a Bersa brand pistol, with a magazine and eleven capsules. Also seized were four suitcases, 14 backpacks, two cell phones, a roll of plastic, RD$10,600, one U.S. dollar, and various personal documents. Ongoing Research "The Public Ministry and the DNCD continue investigations into this criminal network, whose modus operandi consists of using drug trafficking mules to transport drugs to the United States and Europe," states the official report. The two detainees, of Dominican nationality, will be brought to justice in the coming hours for violation of Law 50-88 on Drugs and Controlled Substances. In total, between both interventions, 93 packages of presumed cocaine were seized, which were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding analyses.
