U.S. Ambassador and Raquel Peña visit the Santiago Monument

Santiago de los Caballeros. — The United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah F. Campos, made an official visit to the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration, one of the main cultural and historical symbols of the country, as part of an agenda aimed at strengthening cultural and diplomatic ties. The diplomat was received by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña; María Belissa Ramírez, director of the Monument; the deputy for Santiago, Soraya Suárez, and Senator Daniel Rivera, who accompanied her on a tour of this emblematic heritage space. During the visit, Ambassador Campos learned about the works of art and the history that the Monument safeguards, as well as various elements representative of the Santiago and Dominican identity. Two iconic "lechones" from the Santiago carnival offered a welcome as an expression of local folklore, and the ambassador received a commemorative pin and a figure of the Virgin as a symbol of hospitality and tradition.

Within the framework of the activity, Doña Leah extended a personal invitation to congresswoman Soraya Suárez, she being the only legislator and authority summoned to receive Vice President Raquel Peña and hold a private conversation. During the meeting, congresswoman Soraya Suárez addressed priority issues such as family, childhood, the Zero Hunger program, as well as her positions in favor of a responsible, ethical political exercise oriented towards the well-being of citizens. The conference reaffirmed the importance of cultural exchange and institutional dialogue as tools to strengthen cooperation, mutual understanding, and the construction of public policies focused on social development.
