Young man shot in Azua shootout; authorities deepen investigation

Azua, R.D. – A 21-year-old was shot on Saturday night after a shooting occurred in the Simón Stridells sector, in this municipality, in an event that is being investigated by the National Police. The victim was identified as Ángel David Reyes Matos, who was transferred and admitted to the Traumatology Hospital of Azua, where he is receiving medical attention for a gunshot wound with approximately one hour of evolution, according to official reports. The preliminary report indicates that the incident occurred around 10:30 at night, when the young man was in a grocery store in the aforementioned sector. At that moment, he was intercepted and shot by two individuals riding motorcycles, who subsequently fled. According to statements from the injured person himself, prior to the attack there would have been a physical altercation with the alleged aggressors, who accuse him of allegedly collaborating with the authorities.

Units from the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) and the Scientific Police went to the scene, collecting evidence, including five shell casings, which will be analyzed as part of the investigative process. The National Police reported that it is keeping the identification and location efforts of those responsible active, while investigations are deepened to clarify the circumstances in which the event occurred.
