African dust will begin to dissipate while a grayish sky predominates in a large part of the country

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Republic's Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecasts that for this Wednesday the sky will remain mostly grayish and with very little cloud cover over a large part of the national territory.

During the morning and early afternoon, the predominant feeling will be a dry environment, a product of the high concentration of African dust in suspension.

Starting in the afternoon, dust from the Sahara is expected to begin to gradually decrease, allowing the entry of slight humidity transported by the southeast winds. This transition will favor the formation of scattered clouds and, in conjunction with the orographic influence, will promote the occurrence of short-lived and low-intensity showers in specific areas of the East, South and Central Cibao regions.

Among the demarcations where isolated showers could be recorded are La Altagracia, La Romana, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, Monseñor Nouel, and La Vega. It is estimated that these occasional precipitations will extend until the early hours of the night, without representing significant activity in the rest of the country.

In Greater Santo Domingo, the environment will remain with opaque or slightly gray skies and scarce cloud cover, accompanied by a high heat index. The forecast for the municipalities of the province and the National District is as follows:

  • National District: Overcast sky, few clouds. Hot environment.
  • Santo Domingo North: Sky covered in dust, scarce cloudiness. Feeling of heat.
  • Santo Domingo East: A grayish mantle with little cloudiness will predominate. High temperatures.
  • Santo Domingo West: Mostly gray sky, scarce cloudiness. Hot environment.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 21 °C to 23 °C, while the maximums are between 32 °C and 34 °C, with a high heat index due to the high concentrations of dust in the atmosphere and solar radiation. It is recommended to hydrate frequently and seek cool and ventilated places.
