Reyes, who stumbled on his run towards the plate, took advantage of an erratic throw by reliever Lucas Erceg to safely reach home, in a suspenseful play that defined the match played at Kauffman Stadium. The Yankees' mound corps shone again, with starter Will Warren and four relievers limiting the Royals to just five hits. Mark Leiter Jr. (4-3) was credited with the win after getting a key out, while Devin Williams earned his ninth save of the season. With the victory, the Yankees improved their record to 42-25, the best of the year for them by placing 17 games above .500. In addition, they lead the Major Leagues in away record with a 21-13 record.
The game was delayed 28 minutes due to rain in the top of the sixth inning, but the pace of play was not affected by the brief weather delay. For the Yankees, Dominican Jasson Domínguez went 0-4 and Pablo Reyes went 1-3 with a run; Venezuelan Oswald Peraza finished 0-2. For Kansas City, Venezuelans Maikel Estrada went 0-4, Salvador Pérez went 1-4 and Freddy Fermín went 1-3. With this sweep, the Yankees continue to consolidate their dominance over Kansas City, whom they also eliminated in the 2024 divisional series by 3-1.
