Tens of thousands of people march through the streets of London in a pro-Palestinian march

London (EFE).- Tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of central London on Saturday in a massive pro-Palestinian march, amid the escalating violence of the conflict in the Middle East, to ask the British government to stop providing weapons to Israel. The protesters marched for about four hours from the central Russell Square, next to the British Museum, towards Whitehall, the street next to the British Parliament where the residence of the British Prime Minister, Downing Street, is located, along with other ministerial buildings. Attendees at the so-called 'National March for Palestine' chanted slogans such as 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free' and loudly called for an end to Israel's 'occupation' of Palestinian territory and the cessation of Israeli bombings of Iran, after more than a week of cross-attacks with drones and ballistic missiles. In other banners, phrases could be read against the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, whom they accused of having "blood on his hands" for allowing the sale of arms to Israel and not taking "immediate actions" to end the "genocide" in Gaza.

Moments of Tension

At the height of The Strand, one of the central avenues of the British capital, EFE was able to verify on the spot how moments of tension were experienced when the pro-Palestinian demonstration crossed paths with dozens of people in a counter-protest organized by the pro-Israeli group 'Stop The Hate', to whom they turned, saying "You should be ashamed!". To prevent both groups, of opposing ideologies, from converging or being involved in a violent altercation, the Metropolitan Police of London (Met, in English) confirmed on the social network X that it implemented barriers and enabled a "suitable" space to divide the two demonstrations. However, the Met reported that a bottle was thrown at the pro-Israeli faction, leaving no one injured, a fact that ended the pursuit and subsequent arrest of the suspect, who remains in police custody.
