China, Russia, and Pakistan present a resolution to call for "an unconditional ceasefire"

United Nations,.- Three member countries of the UN Security Council -China, Russia and Pakistan- presented a draft resolution to the body to call for "an immediate and unconditional ceasefire" between Iran, Israel and the United States, according to Chinese Ambassador to the UN, Fu Cong, who spoke before the Council this Sunday

The three countries are considered Iran's main allies on the Council at the moment, and it is highly unlikely that the resolution will move forward, given the veto power that the United States has within the body.

Even so, the resolution - which does not yet have a date for a vote - uses diplomatic language because it calls for, in addition to a ceasefire, "the protection of civilians, respect for international law and a return to dialogue and negotiation". Fu, as the Russian ambassador, Vasili Nebenzia, did after him, unequivocally condemned the United States' bombings of nuclear plants, which none of the European countries (France, United Kingdom, Denmark, Slovenia and Greece) did. Ambassador Nebenzia was particularly harsh in highlighting "the cynical statements (of the other countries) about their willingness to return to the negotiating table, as if the high-caliber bomb attacks on Iran had not taken place; hypocritically, they paint Iran as the party that has derailed the negotiation process."
