Los Mina residents live under a "curfew" due to threats from a supposed drug trafficker known as Jarito

Santo Domingo. – Residents of the Los Mina sector, specifically on Interior Rosa Duarte street, reported this Thursday that they live in constant fear due to the threats and the climate of violence generated by an alleged drug trafficker identified as “Jarito”, whom they accuse of controlling multiple drug points in the area and being a fugitive from justice for the murder of a police officer more than nine years ago. According to several community members, the situation has become unsustainable, to the point that some residents have abandoned their homes and others live under a self-imposed "curfew" due to fear of reprisals. They allege that, after an altercation in which a drug point was closed, threats have increased, including the presence of alleged "missionaries" sent by Jarito to intimidate or attack those who confronted him.

One of the whistleblowers claimed that his family has been directly targeted for retaliation, he narrated that he recently disarmed one of the armed men linked to the point, after an attempted assault in the middle of the street. "Thank God the gun jammed. If not, this would be another story," he commented. He added that his son and other young people in the area have been persecuted and that he fears for their lives. Whistleblowers also accuse sectors of the National Police of complicity with criminal networks, pointing out that some agents protect these points in exchange for bribes. "In Los Mina there are more drug points than grocery stores and nobody sees them," said Yoti, who also revealed that he has documented at least seven active points and fears for his safety. Residents made an urgent call to the authorities of the Public Ministry and the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) to intervene in the area, dismantle criminal operations, and guarantee the safety of citizens who today feel abandoned. “We are tired of living in uncertainty. We don't want more drugs, more weapons, or more fear. We just ask to be able to live in peace,” they concluded.
