The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos Echavarría, announced this Wednesday that the province of Pedernales has been connected for the first time in its history to the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI), marking a before and after for the development of this border demarcation.
“For years, Pedernales depended on isolated, expensive, and limited-capacity generation, which hindered its economic and social growth,” the minister expressed through his official X account (formerly Twitter).

"Today, we celebrate a milestone: Pedernales will have more stable, clean energy with greater capacity to drive its future," he added.

Up to this moment, 100% of the province's electricity supply was covered by local generation systems, with high operating costs and low efficiency, which represented a major barrier to attracting investment, developing tourism, and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.

With its integration into the SENI, Pedernales will be able to count on a continuous, reliable, and less polluting energy source, which will strengthen the national sustainable development strategy, especially in border areas.

"From the Government, we continue to work to build a more modern and inclusive energy infrastructure, that reaches every corner of the country," Santos concluded.

This progress is part of the commitments of the Government of President Luis Abinader, with the integral development of the province, as part of the Tourism Development Plan of Pedernales, which includes significant investments in infrastructure, basic services, and job creation.
