The Office for Transportation Reordering (OPRET) reports that the upgrade work on the signaling and telecommunications system of Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro is progressing according to the established schedule. Therefore, this Monday, July 21st, the service will resume as usual at the elevated stations of Villa Mella, from Mamá Tingó to Hermanas Mirabal, using 3-car trains.

The institution reminds citizens that the incorporation of 6-car trains will take place in August, once the ongoing technical phase is completed. The companies Hitachi and Siemens will be delivering the final works on July 31, giving way to the corresponding international certification stage.

During this closure, the opportunity has also been taken to reconfigure the turnstile system at the stations Peña Gómez, Gregorio Luperón and José Francisco Peña Gómez (Urbano Gilbert), moving them to the entrances, as already happens in Mamá Tingó. This measure seeks to speed up user access, especially during peak hours.

The institution reiterates that, regarding the interruption of service at the elevated stations of Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro, the Metropolitan Bus Services Operator (OMSA) has provided free buses for Metro users to make the round trip between these stations.

OPRET deeply thanks the citizenry for their understanding and civic-mindedness during these days of work. With your support, we continue to move towards a more efficient transportation system for all.
