Washington.- Former U.S. Democratic President Barack Obama (2009-2017) on Tuesday called "ridiculous" the statement by the current U.S. President, Republican Donald Trump, who accuses him of "treason" and of leading a conspiracy to delegitimize his victory in the 2016 elections.

"These strange claims are ridiculous and a weak attempt to divert attention", said in a statement -sent to the media- Obama's spokesman, Patrick Rodenbush.

Her note pointed out that, although "out of respect for the President's office", her cabinet "does not usually dignify with a response the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing from this White House, these allegations are outrageous enough to deserve one." Intelligence agencies from the Republican administration accuse officials from the Obama administration of leaking false statements to the media to undermine the Trump administration during its first term (2017-2021). Among those media would be The Washington Post, which would have been told that Russia tried to interfere, through cyber means, in the outcome of the 2016 elections, which Trump won. "They tried to rig the elections, they were discovered and there should be very severe consequences for it. It's time to go after the culprits. Obama was caught directly. People say: 'Oh, you know? it's a group of people. It's not a group, it's Obama. His orders are written. The papers are signed," Trump assured this Tuesday at the White House. According to the Republican leader, the alleged conspirators thought they would be safe from exposure if they marked all the documents as "highly classified". "Well, the highly classified has been made public, and what they did in 2016 and then also 2020 is very criminal," Trump said, repeating the accusations -without evidence- that the victory in the 2020 presidential elections was stolen from him, where he lost against Democrat Joe Biden (2021-2025). The current US president has insisted on his accusations against Obama in several posts on his Truth Social platform, where he went so far as to share a fake video - generated with artificial intelligence - in which Obama is shown being arrested in the Oval Office. According to Trump, the scandal linking Obama to that alleged conspiracy that tried to link him to the Kremlin's maneuvers is the "witch hunt" that the press should be talking about, instead of prolonging the controversy over the case of magnate Jeffrey Epstein, who died in a cell in 2019 accused of sexual trafficking of minors.
