Santo Domingo. - Authorities from the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) have issued a national alert due to the direct and indirect effects of Hurricane Erin, and residents in the Los Ríos sector of the capital are preparing to receive the direct or indirect effects of this phenomenon.
Faced with the possible flooding of ravines, some citizens expressed that they are beginning to prepare for these eventualities and at the same time ask for the intervention of the competent authorities, since on other occasions they have been left helpless.
"Right now we have to take the precautions that the authorities have already announced, recognize that they must take action if they see that things become difficult to get out on time. There are many people who are in the lower part, even though the water doesn't rise in the upper part, I think there are people who should come to their aid," Domingo Sánchez declared before the cameras of De Último Minuto.
The Los Ríos sector is vulnerable to natural phenomena, which endangers the lives of multiple families living near the ravine. Another citizen named Méndez said, “We hope that the gentleman will lend a hand; we are preventing with some cleaning so that the water can flow.”
However, so far the COE maintains 08 provinces on yellow alert and 01 and the National District on green, because Hurricane Erin remains as category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with maximum sustained winds estimated at 220 km/h. It is currently located about 180 km north of Grand Turk Island and approximately 380 km north of Puerto Plata.
Meanwhile, the INDOMET National Forecast Center maintains the meteorological warning level due to the indirect effects of Hurricane Erin, due to the risk of dangerous waves, groundswell, rip currents, waves of more than 10 feet high and possible urban flooding.
