Deputies predict a productive school year; they hope deficiencies will be resolved

Santo Domingo.- Regarding the start of the 2025-2026 school year this Monday, deputies from different blocs in the National Congress have predicted a productive period and hope that the deficiencies reported in some places will be resolved as quickly as possible. In that sense, the deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Ignacio Aracena, pointed to the responsibility that the country's parents have to respond to the call of the Ministry of Education, he also explained that the deficiencies respond to the growth of the student population in recent years.

"We hope that it will be a productive school year for all the children of the Dominican Republic, and ask the parents of the children to make an effort and send the children to school," said Aracena. For his part, the deputy of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) Ramón Raposo, said that all Dominican society must integrate to make a real contribution to the country's development through education. Likewise, Charlie Mariotti Paz, deputy for the Dominican Liberation Party, referred to the bittersweet feeling of this day since many students start with joy, while for others places have not been found and schools remain deteriorated. "Many parents who couldn't find places, who take children to schools that are very deteriorated, the reduction of the extended school day which was an achievement of Dominican society, and let's hope that these problems can be solved in the following months, because we cannot play with the education of our children who are the future and the present," Mariotti Paz pointed out while urging the Government to put more emphasis on this matter. The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd), began the morning of this Monday, August 25th, the 2025-2026 school year with simultaneous events in the 122 school districts, with the participation of national and local authorities in opening ceremonies in each educational demarcation. The Minerd recalled that more than 2 million students were called to join the classrooms from this Monday, along with teachers, directors, administrative staff and families, within the framework of a school year that reaffirms the Government's commitment to guarantee quality education for all.
