The world number 7, owner of 24 Grand Slam titles, started with doubts and conceded the first set in the 'tie break', after committing 14 unforced errors, against an opponent who showed great mobility and effectiveness from the baseline. However, after losing the first set, Djokovic adjusted his game and managed to impose his experience. The Serbian player equalized the match with an early break in the second set and, from then on, grew in confidence until dominating the rest of the match with authority. Svajda, ranked 145th and only 22 years old, surprised with 22 winning shots in the first two sets, but in the third he asked for medical assistance due to physical discomfort and could not maintain the pace. Djokovic took advantage of his rival's slump with five consecutive breaks that sealed the match. The 38-year-old veteran, a four-time champion in New York, will face the winner between the Argentinian Francisco Comesaña (n.54) and the British Cameron Norrie (n.35) in the next round. Djokovic arrives at the US Open after falling in the semifinals of Wimbledon and Roland Garros against the Italian Jannik Sinner, and seeks to add a new title in the last Grand Slam of the year, which is played until September 7 at the "Billie Jean King National Tennis Center".
