In that sense, the United States considers that the Dominican Republic has the necessary track record and commitment in terms of drug control and the fight against organized crime to propose a candidate with leadership capacity. The U.S. government highlighted that the Caribbean country has demonstrated good practices in the application of policies against drug trafficking and crime, so its eventual candidacy would contribute to strengthening the role of UNODC as a specialized body in the matter. President Abinader thanked for the deference and assured that his government will evaluate the proposal within the framework of its foreign policy aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation and the international fight against drugs and organized crime. He also expressed his gratitude for the recognition of the efforts that his government has been developing in the fight against drugs, emphasizing that it constitutes a State priority to maintain and deepen those advances.
