Santo Domingo, RD.– The National Council for Disability (CONADIS) received hundreds of wheelchairs donated by the Wheelchair Foundation, as part of an alliance aimed at improving the mobility and quality of life of people with disabilities throughout the national territory.

The president of CONADIS, Benny Metz, and the executive director, Alexis Alcántara, led the handover ceremony, where they thanked the founders of the organization, Steve Beinke and Scott Ford, for the donation, the result of the strengthened relationship after an institutional visit made months ago in the United States.

“Your solidarity represents a real hope for hundreds of people who depend on these devices for their autonomy,” Metz expressed. The local representative of the Wheelchair Foundation, Marcell Martínez, stated that the delivery is part of the entity's permanent commitment to the most vulnerable sectors. The wheelchairs were personalized with the logos of both institutions to guarantee their identification. Alcántara explained that the equipment will be distributed through social inclusion days in different parts of the country, prioritizing remote communities.

Edgar Santana, advisor to the Department of Social Protection, detailed that the donation includes standard, neurological, pediatric, and all-terrain models, essential for improving the independence of users.

The initiative reaffirms CONADIS's commitment to expand access to support devices and strengthen public inclusion policies through national and international alliances.
