The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, highlighted the modernity, efficiency, and high performance that characterize the Energía 2000 generating plant, currently under construction in Manzanillo, Pepillo Salcedo municipality, and which will contribute 414 megawatts (MW) to the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI), once it begins operations during the first part of 2026.

During a supervisory visit carried out together with members of the Electric Cabinet, Santos verified the progress of the work and compliance with the construction schedule and emphasized that the new installed capacity will be decisive for continuing to strengthen the reliability, stability and operational safety of the national electricity system.

"The Energia 2000 project will be one of the most modern plants in the region in combined cycle technology. Both the gas and steam turbines have been designed to the highest standards, making it one of the most efficient units in the country. This plant will contribute to reducing the average operating costs of the integrated electrical system," said the minister.

Santos expressed that the observed advances allow projecting that the plant will be ready to start injecting energy into the SENI in early 2026. "We have been able to verify significant progress in all areas of the project. We congratulate the builders and the company Energía 2000 for the organized and efficient way in which this work is being executed," he assured.

The official highlighted that Energía 2000 is part of the set of strategic initiatives that the Government is promoting to strengthen the energy matrix, make it more resilient, sustainable and guarantee a solid generation base that ensures the availability of the electrical service in the coming years.

From his side, Jaime Santana, president of Energía 2000, assured that the works are progressing according to the established schedule and reiterated the commitment to deliver the plant within the foreseen timeframe. “Today we confirm that the project is evolving in an organized manner and that we will have energy injection capacity during the first part of 2026.”

"We appreciate the State's support in ensuring that this strategic plant comes into operation on schedule," he said.

During the visit, Minister Joel Santos was accompanied by the general administrator of the Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED), Alfonso Rodríguez; Superintendent of Electricity, Andrés Astacio; the executive director of the National Energy Commission (CNE), Edward Veras.

The construction of Energía 2000 began in December 2022. It is one of the largest and most modern generation units in the country. Its commissioning will reinforce the electricity supply in the northern zone and will contribute to balancing the historical concentration of generation in the eastern region, guaranteeing greater stability and reliability throughout the Dominican electrical system.
