A court in Ecuador sentenced a man to 29 years and four months in prison for physically assaulting and raping his ex-partner, whom he also held and locked up for two days, the Attorney General's Office of the Andean country reported this Friday. The case dates back to September 21, 2023, when César Narciso P. R. surprised the victim at her home, located in the northeast of Guayaquil, attacked her with blows and forced her to enter his house. He kept her locked up for two days and raped her. The woman managed to escape and was helped by her neighbors, who alerted the Police. The aggressor was arrested and placed under the orders of the judicial authority.

However, during the arraignment, a judge did not send him to prison but ordered him to appear periodically before a court and prohibited him from leaving the country. Three months later, on Christmas Eve, the now-sentenced man murdered his ex-partner and fled to Peru. The Prosecutor's Office requested Interpol's red notice; the aggressor was located and extradited in August 2025. This allowed the continuation of this criminal process and another investigation that was opened for the femicide of the woman. In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered him to pay a fine of $501,020 and compensation of $5,000 in favor of the victim's family. In Ecuador, six out of ten women have suffered some type of violence throughout their lives, and three out of ten sexual violence, according to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Inec).
