The Kremlin claims Putin will speak with Trump on the phone soon

The Kremlin said on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will speak again by phone with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, after the meeting of the US president with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. "Very soon," replied Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov during his daily press conference when asked when the new telephone conversation between Putin and Trump will take place after the US leader met with Zelensky for peace negotiations. However, Peskov rejected that a possible telephone conversation between Zelensky and Putin is on the table right now.

Nothing has been proposed regarding a possible ceasefire during the holiday period, specifically Orthodox Christmas, on January 7th. Yesterday, Zelensky and Trump held a meeting lasting over three hours in Florida, although the American side acknowledged that despite "95%" of the 20-point peace plan being resolved, there are still "thorny" issues to be resolved, including the future of the Donbas region or a ceasefire. Before the meeting, Trump spoke by phone with Putin, who "agreed to the US proposal to resolve the situation in Ukraine through the establishment of working groups. One will be in charge of the security dimension and another of economic affairs," according to the Kremlin. Moscow declined to comment today on the meeting in Florida until receiving information about it from Washington. "We don't know how the meeting went, so we can't assess it. The President of Russia and the President of the United States agreed to call each other again. And then we will receive that information," Peskov concluded.
