Libertarians are "available" to join Kast's Government but set conditions

Santiago de Chile.- The far-right Libertarian National Party assured this Monday that it would be "available" to join the future government of the president-elect of Chile, José Antonio Kast, as long as some current policies are eliminated, which are "tremendously ideologized". «We are available to be part of a Government (…) to contribute without losing our identity. We cannot support policies that would be contrary to what is our declaration of principles if these were maintained over time», said the president of the party, deputy Johannes Kaiser, at a press conference. Kaiser, who came in fourth in the first round of last November's presidential election and obtained 13.9% of the votes, said that they will begin formal negotiations on Tuesday with Kast's far-right Republican Party. "There are policies that are in force from the State, which are tremendously ideological policies and that we believe should be neutralized," the deputy pointed out. You can also read:

Sexual Education and Questioned Programs

Among those policies promoted by the current progressive government of Gabriel Boric, Kaiser listed the different initiatives related to sex education in schools, as well as the "Grow with Pride" program to support children and adolescents whose gender identity does not match their sex. Kaiser was one of the surprises of the last elections, which Kast won in the second round on December 14, when he prevailed by a wide margin over the leftist Jeannette Jara. Former ally of the president-elect and with a more harsh and extreme speech, Kaiser left Kast's Republican Party to form his own at the beginning of this year. Unlike Kast, who sought to appear more moderate in the campaign, Kaiser unapologetically vindicates the military dictatorship (1973-1990) and the so-called "cultural battle" on issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage, or euthanasia. Kast, a 59-year-old ultra-Catholic lawyer, will become the ninth president of Chile since the return to democracy on March 11th and the first far-right president to come to power since the dictatorship.
