The new Director General of Customs (DGA), Nelson Arroyo, assured that he will work in favor of the country's budget balance, the increase in collections and to further facilitate foreign trade in the Dominican Republic.

These considerations were presented upon being sworn in as head of said entity, an act led by the Minister of Finance, Magín Díaz, after being appointed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, through decree number 3-26.

Arroyo also expressed his intention to work in favor of the country's interest, which he said is above all else. "I ask the team of collaborators of the General Customs Directorate to focus on the work with us," he added.

"I don't want any kind of surprises, here we are going to do things in consensus with Yayo himself, and we are going to make this transition, a transition that is not traumatic," Arroyo stated.

After being sworn in, Arroyo thanked President Abinader for the appointment and pledged to work towards institutional strengthening and improvement in the customs collection system.

Arroyo served as Vice President of Seguro Reservas and was president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) during the period 2020–2024.

He holds a doctorate in Law from the Universidad Central del Este and is the founder of the firm Arroyo & Asociados. His political career includes his election as a councilman of San Pedro de Macorís in 1998, as a civil governor in the year 2000, and as a deputy to the National Congress between 2006 and 2016, where he chaired the Accounts Chamber commission and was a member of the Justice Commission.

Arroyo replaces Eduardo Yayo Sanz Lovatón in the position, who was appointed as the new Minister of Industry, Trade and Mipymes.
