Authorities seize 863 packages of cocaine and capture two men

Santo Domingo.- Anti-narcotics authorities reported this Friday the seizure of 863 packages of cocaine after an "uninterrupted" pursuit by air, sea and land on the coasts near Pedernales, an operation in which two men were also captured. The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) specified in a note that the operation was supported by the Navy and Air Force of the Dominican Republic and State intelligence agencies, coordinated by the Public Ministry. The agency specified that, after receiving intelligence reports, it activated a tracking, surveillance, and control operation to intercept a vessel that was traveling with several individuals on board and an alleged shipment of narcotics. After more than 15 hours of tracking, air, maritime, and land units intercepted, several nautical miles south of Cabo Rojo, a vessel with no name or registration, with two Dominicans on board, occupying 26 sacks containing the 863 packages of the drug, with a weight yet to be specified, wrapped with adhesive tape and with different logos. During the intervention, a satellite radio, three GPS devices, two mobile phones, water and food, tarpaulins, clothing, among other evidence, were also seized.

"This first blow of the year 2026 to criminal structures is the result of the broad and sustained cooperation between the DNCD, the Armed Forces, the Attorney General's Office, the State intelligence agencies, and international cooperation, in a permanent offensive against drug trafficking in the region," the information said.

The Public Ministry and the DNCD are keeping the investigation open to determine if there are other people involved besides those arrested.
