Hipólito Mejía calls for changes to the Government Train: "I want changes, not transfers"

Higüey. – Former President of the Republic, Hipólito Mejía, called on the government of President Luis Abinader to make real changes in the Governmental Train, and not simple transfers of officials, considering that some areas require firm decisions to improve public management. "I want changes, not transfers," Mejía emphasized, while opening the possibility that the president could feel "betrayed or deceived" by some of his officials. "Anything is possible. I would fire any official at the drop of a hat," he said, recalling his direct style at the head of the State. The former president also referred to President Abinader's silence and the suspension of the weekly meeting with the press LA Semanal, which has not been held since December 8th. When questioned about this issue, Mejía responded with a critical tone: "What do I know, a man from Gurabo what will he know about LA Semanal," he commented.

In political terms, Mejía referred to the growth of public perception of his daughter, the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, whose valuation went from 50% to 82% in a period of six months, when asked about the possibility of her being the presidential candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). "I have always been governed by a woman, but now there will be a female president in the country," stated the former ruler. Despite his criticisms, Hipólito Mejía valued President Abinader's management as positive, although he acknowledged that, like any government, it faces challenges. "He has had his issues as always. He has grown fond of some officials," he pointed out.

Finally, Mejía assured that he does not miss the Presidency of the Republic, recalling his humble origins in the municipality of Gurabo. "I went from a donkey to a bicycle, I never aspired to the presidency, but it came and I returned to Gurabo. I am a happy 85-year-old man," he concluded.
