José Ramírez: “I don’t want to talk about the Clásico right now”

The stellar Dominican third baseman avoided commenting on the matter this Thursday during the official presentation of his contract extension with the Cleveland Guardians, held in that city. Ramírez made it clear that his priority at that moment was to focus exclusively on the contractual agreement reached with the organization. "I don't want to talk about the topic of the Clásico right now. We are focused on my contract and that's all I can tell you," the player said to the media.

Although in the past Ramírez had expressed interest in wearing the Dominican uniform in the Classic, recent reports indicate that his participation would be in doubt. Even, it has been reported that the Dominican national team could issue a statement in the coming days to clarify the situation of the player.

Cleveland and Ramírez agreed to a contract extension for seven years and 175 million dollars, which ensures the player's permanence with the franchise for the rest of his professional career. "The organization gave me the opportunity when I was 16 and my whole family is happy here. I know there are comments about the money, but this is where I want to be," Ramírez pointed out. The third baseman defined himself as "half Cleveland and half Dominican Republic", highlighting that he resides in the city and that all his children were born there. He also recalled the difficult moments at the beginning of his career and how the support of the Guardians was key to his development. "Since I signed, I had the mentality of finishing here.
