Teenager dies after receiving electric shock while using his cell phone in Higüey

A teenager lost her life on the morning of this Saturday after receiving an electric shock while allegedly using her cell phone connected to the power outlet, in the municipal district La Otra Banda, municipality Higüey, province La Altagracia. The incident occurred at kilometer 5 of the La Otra Banda–Higüey highway, near a workshop located opposite the corrals of the Nisibón Cattle Ranchers Association (AGANI). The victim was identified as Yandelis Moni Sánchez, whose age has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.

According to preliminary reports, the minor was using the mobile device while it was connected to electricity, at which moment she received the electric shock that caused her death. The event has generated consternation among family, friends, and members of the educational community, who lamented what happened and called for strengthening prevention regarding the safe use of electronic devices. Police authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, while residents of the sector urged to educate children and adolescents about the risks of improper use of electricity to avoid similar tragedies.
