Ramón Alburquerque Ramírez was a civil engineer, academic, and one of the historical leaders of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), an organization from which he played a key role in national political life. Throughout his career, he held important positions in the State, standing out as a senator of the Republic and president of the Senate, as well as Minister of Economy, Planning and Development. He was recognized for his intellectual training, his critical discourse, and his defense of democratic principles, even in times of political tension. Despite his extensive career and leadership, it was repeatedly pointed out that he failed to reach the Presidency of the Republic due to limitations of economic resources, a reality that he himself came to publicly acknowledge.
