Caracas.- The general secretary of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, once again demanded unity within the ranks of Chavismo this Friday and assured that "there is no space" for "personalities" or "small groups" given the situation facing the country, one month after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the U.S.

"I demand, these are the moments where unity, revolutionary discipline must prevail," said Cabello in a telephone contact during an event of the parliamentary affairs secretariat of the political group.

In his words, broadcast by the state-owned channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the also Minister of Interior and Justice stressed that the PSUV is ""an organized party"" and that the Gran Polo Patriótico, the coalition of Chavista political forces, is a ""disciplined"" movement. In this regard, it was pointed out that "there is no room" for "personalities, small groups", given the situation facing the country, which since January 5th has been led by the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez. "Requires the country's maximum unity", he insisted. Since assuming the functions of the Executive, the acting president has promoted a series of policies and reforms, including a change in the hydrocarbons law to open the sector to foreign investment, as well as the proposed amnesty law, amid a process of releasing political prisoners. As part of the public consultation on this legislation, the president of the Venezuelan Parliament and brother of the acting president, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, asked this Friday to hear from the families of political prisoners and indicated that the legislation not only contemplates releases but also reparations for the victims. President Rodríguez also resumed diplomatic relations with the United States, which already sent Ambassador Laura Dogu last week as chargé d'affaires to Caracas.

Since the capture of Maduro and his wife, congresswoman Cilia Flores, Chavismo has marched daily to demand their release and return to Venezuela, in demonstrations where the Chavista leadership has insisted on asking for unity among its followers.
