LAKELAND, Florida.– Although the Grapefruit League schedule hasn't started yet, the atmosphere at Joker Marchant Stadium is already like the regular season. The Detroit Tigers took advantage of Wednesday's session to officially present Dominican left-hander Framber Valdez, in an event that reflected the club's ambition for 2026.

Baseball operations president Scott Harris and general manager Jeff Greenberg spearheaded the activity at Club 34, accompanied by the pitcher's family and agent. However, attention also focused on a table at the back of the room, where Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize, Jack Flaherty, and Justin Verlander — fresh from their first formal practice — waited to support their new rotation teammate. Valdez, who agreed to a three-year deal for US$115 million, valued the gesture as a demonstration of the leadership and unity that distinguishes the team's pitching staff. "That they take the time to be here shows the kind of group they are. I hope to contribute and grow with them. It's a privilege to be a part of this," said the left-hander. The culture among Detroit's starters has strengthened over the years. Since the emergence of Skubal and Mize in the Major Leagues, mutual support has been an essential part of the staff's development. Flaherty joined that dynamic two seasons ago and now Valdez and Verlander —who returns on a one-year contract— join a rotation that combines talent, experience, and leadership.

Collectively, the five starters have accumulated All-Star Game appearances, World Series titles, Cy Young awards, and individual recognitions that support the group's potential. Beyond personal achievements, the challenge now is to establish themselves as one of the most feared rotations in the league.

Receiver Jake Rogers, who coincided with Valdez in the minor leagues, highlighted the enthusiasm within the clubhouse. "The possibilities are endless. We are excited about what we can build," he stated. A.J. Hinch played a key role in the Dominican's arrival. The manager traveled to Florida to meet personally with Valdez and explain the sports project and the team's competitive culture. That approach proved decisive in the pitcher's decision.

Although several staff members could enter free agency at the end of the campaign, the organization understands that it has a unique opportunity ahead. If the chemistry and performance align, Detroit could star in a memorable season.
