United States - Major League Baseball Players Association Executive Director Tony Clark is expected to announce his resignation from the position, according to sources with knowledge of the decision cited by US media. Neither the leader, nor his lawyer, nor the union had issued official comments at the time the information was released.

Clark, 53, has headed the association since 2013 and was expected to begin his usual tour of spring training camps this week. However, the first scheduled stop — a meeting with the Cleveland Guardians in Arizona — was canceled. The possible outcome occurs in a context of institutional pressure. The union and its leadership have been under federal investigation since last year by the Eastern District of New York, related to the use of licensing revenue or other financial assets. The eventual replacement also coincides with a critical moment for baseball's labor relations, as the current collective bargaining agreement expires at the end of the season and there is an expectation that the owners will decree a lockout, as happened after the 2021 campaign, when the sport stopped for 99 days. One of the central points of the upcoming negotiation process is the proposal to implement a salary cap, a system in force in leagues such as the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, and the National Hockey League. The union, under the direction of Clark and Deputy Director Bruce Meyer, has maintained a firm stance of rejection of this measure, considering that it does not guarantee greater competitive balance. The debate has intensified amid the increase in salary spending by franchises such as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets, a factor that owners have cited as an argument to push for changes in the league's economic system. As of yet, it has not been confirmed who would take over the leadership of the union if the resignation were to materialize, nor when the announcement would be made official.
