DICRIM pursues man accused of kidnapping and robbery of over US$700,000 in cryptocurrencies in Santiago

Santo Domingo.-Authorities from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DICRIM) and the Public Ministry are actively pursuing a man under an arrest warrant, accused of allegedly abducting his victim and armed robbery of over US$700,000.00 in cryptocurrencies. The fugitive was identified as Joan Carlos Miranda Furcal, who is being pursued through arrest warrant number 2025-AJ0075934, issued by a court in the city of Santiago, to the detriment of a person of foreign nationality, who asked to omit their name for security reasons. According to the account of the events in the complaint filed with the Public Ministry by the victim, who stated that on 10-31-2025, they received several messages via the Telegram platform from a person known only as IVÁN, who agreed to meet the next day in an apartment in the Gurabo sector, located on 11th Street, of the Torre Real IV Residential, Santiago. Following this, the complainant stated that he had posted on TELEGRAM, the day before, about the sale of USDT, or Virtual Dollar, agreeing to meet with the accused at the last mentioned address. He recounts that upon arriving at the meeting place, he was received by a supposed security guard who guided him to the first level.

Then at the entrance of the aforementioned building, to then go to the apartment of IVÁN who was accompanied by several unknown people. He said that upon entering the apartment, the complainant informed him that he had a machine to count the money, later, IVÁN moved the complainant to a room and returned with a firearm in his hands, expressing that they would not harm him, that he should hand over his cell phone, but as he resisted, they threw him on the bed and then tied his feet with a belt and tried to suffocate him with a towel, while one of them pointed the firearm at his head. Following the account, the aggressors forcibly obtained the key to his cell phone, who subsequently sent all the Cryptocurrency funds with various denominations from the complainant's personal account to the BINANCE AND BYBIT platforms, for an approximate accumulated and subtracted value of seven hundred thousand US dollars (US$700,000.00). After all this, Joan and the other companions moved the complainant to the Municipality of Bonao, Monseñor Nouel Province, and abandoned him inside a vacant lot, also taking away the key to his vehicle. Leaving him with several blows, the result of the aggressions. Joan is accused of allegedly leading the network that committed the aforementioned acts.
