Between flowers and tears, people from Santiago visit cemeteries to honor their deceased mothers

Santiago.- Hundreds of people went to the different cemeteries in Santiago this Sunday to pay tribute to their deceased mothers, on the occasion of the celebration of Mother's Day in the Dominican Republic, a day marked by nostalgia, memories and displays of love towards those who are no longer physically present. From the early hours of the morning, men, women, and children arrived at the cemeteries with flowers, candles, and cleaning utensils to prepare the tombs of their loved ones, in a tradition that every year brings together entire families in an act of remembrance and respect. Among the visitors was Margarita Román, who went to the El Ingenio cemetery to visit the tomb where her parents and a grandson of the family rest. With evident emotion, she recounted the void left by the departure of both parents.

"My mother will have been deceased for 15 years this August 16th and my father for 14 years. I always come to the cemetery because the pain never disappears. When parents are gone, there remains a sadness that stays alive in the soul for a lifetime," expressed Román.

Every day belongs to mothers. Those who have their mothers should take care of them and value them while they have them, because when they are gone, a very great pain is felt," he stated.
