HOUSTON. – A tense moment occurred during the duel between Mexico (Baseball Team) and the United States (Baseball Team) in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, after outfielder Randy Arozarena reacted with annoyance following a gesture that was not reciprocated by his teammate in Seattle, catcher Cal Raleigh.

The situation occurred when Arozarena was heading to bat and tried to greet Raleigh with a handshake or fist bump, who was behind the plate defending the colors of the United States. However, the catcher did not respond to the gesture, leaving the Mexican outfielder with his hand extended. The incident recalled what happened in the 2023 edition of the tournament, when Arozarena also tried to greet American catcher Will Smith without receiving a response.

After the game, Arozarena was questioned about the moment and offered statements loaded with irony and annoyance towards his teammate from the Seattle Mariners. The outfielder commented that he preferred to express his reaction in several languages and, although he began by thanking the education of Raleigh's parents —whom he said he had greeted days before at the hotel— he also launched critical comments towards the catcher.

The match ended with a 5-3 victory for the United States, a result that allowed the North American team to remain undefeated in the group stage of the tournament. Despite the episode, the incident is not expected to generate major consequences within the Seattle clubhouse when both players return to the team after the Classic. However, the moment added a new chapter to the intense rivalry that Mexico and the United States have starred in this edition of the tournament. There is even the possibility that both teams will face each other again later in the championship, which could add more tension to a duel that has already captured the attention of fans and social media.
