Representative Oscar Morel denounces abandonment five months after the bridge collapse in Don Juan

Santo Domingo.- The deputy for the province of Monte Plata, Oscar Morel, denounced that five months and 15 days have passed since the collapse of a bridge in the municipal district of Don Juan, without the Government having started work for its reconstruction, a situation that keeps the community out of communication with the municipality of Yamasá. Morel explained that, due to the recent rains that have affected the country, the provisional detour that had been enabled to allow transit was also destroyed, which has aggravated the problem of connectivity between both locations. The legislator criticized that, despite the importance of the bridge for the development of the area, the authorities have not acted quickly. He pointed out that this route is key to the production and marketing of cocoa, in addition to facilitating commercial and social flow between Don Juan and Yamasá. Furthermore, he recalled that during previous governments, when similar situations arose, alternative routes were constructed while the definitive work was being built, citing as an example the management of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), in which —according to what he stated— a bridge was built immediately without the provisional detour being used.

Morel also questioned why the Government has not used an emergency fund which, according to him, was intended to address this type of situation. "The Government seems not to want to use those funds in the province of Monte Plata. Again, they have their backs turned on us regarding many situations that happen there," said the deputy. The congressman called on the authorities to urgently intervene in the infrastructure, because the lack of the bridge continues to affect mobility, productive activity and the quality of life of the residents of the area.
