Abinader and Rector Editrudis Beltrán inaugurate historic transformation of UASD

Santo Domingo.- The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) inaugurated this Thursday a modern Multiservice Center and a set of new academic, technological, and student infrastructures at its Central Headquarters, during an event headed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, and the rector of the state academy, maestro Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo. The new works are part of the modernization and institutional strengthening process promoted by the current university administration in coordination with the Dominican Government, under the strategic vision of the UASD-State Binomial, aimed at consolidating a more efficient, innovative, and connected public university with the needs of the country. During his speech, Rector Editrudis Beltrán stated that the inauguration of these infrastructures represents a transcendental step in the consolidation of a university model focused on academic excellence, digital transformation, and the optimization of student services. "Today, an institutional vision based on commitment, modernization, and the strengthening of the services we offer to our university community and the country materializes," expressed Beltrán Crisóstomo. The rector highlighted that UASD continues to advance towards management and quality standards in line with the contemporary demands of higher education.

"These works reflect our management's commitment to a more modern, efficient university integrated into the processes of innovation and national development," he said. As the main focus of the inaugural day, the new Multiservice Center was put into operation, built in the space where the old University Dining Hall operated, with an approximate investment of RD$151 million. The modern building integrates the Admissions, Registration, Validation and Equivalency, Archive, and General Cashier areas in the same space, allowing the centralization and optimization of the institution's main academic and administrative services.

"The most modern academic service center in the country and a large part of the region is now at the service of our university community," said the rector.

The center has 32 windows for the automation of 29 university services, as well as digital guidance systems, information screens and integrated sound systems that will facilitate more agile, efficient and accessible processes for students, teachers and users. “Today we are not only centralizing dependencies; we are taking a big step towards faster, simpler, and more efficient processes”, Beltrán Crisóstomo pointed out. As part of the strengthening of the academic infrastructure, the third and fourth levels of the Máximo Avilés Blonda (AB) and Juan Isidro Jiménez (JJ) buildings were delivered, as well as the expansion of the Modern Sciences (CM) building, works executed with the financial support of the central Government and resources provided by the state academy. The AB building incorporates 15 new classrooms for programs related to technology, computer science, robotics, and artificial intelligence, developed in coordination with the Instituto Tecnológico de Las Américas (ITLA), while the JJ building adds 18 new classrooms focused on strengthening language teaching. Currently, the UASD School of Languages develops training programs in 14 languages, including English, French, German, Portuguese, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish for foreigners, impacting thousands of students at the Central Headquarters and in the regional campuses and centers of the university throughout the country. "The vision of the UASD-State Binomial continues to bring the academy closer to its people," said the rector during the inaugural ceremony. Also, the Plaza del Estudiante was inaugurated, conceived as a space for university integration and representation of the provinces and the National District, with an investment of nearly RD$55 million. In the technological and academic innovation field, the university launched a modern audiovisual system consisting of television studios, a newsroom, a podcast booth, editing areas, and a master control room, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to strengthen training in audiovisual production, strategic communication, digital marketing, and multiplatform content creation. "With this achievement, we strengthen teaching in areas related to audiovisual production and digital communication, adapting the university to the new times," expressed Beltrán Crisóstomo. In terms of university health, the academic management delivered the renovated Clinic C of the School of Dentistry, equipped with 14 new dental units, optimized sterilization areas, and better care conditions for students and patients.
The rector thanked President Luis Abinader for his support to the state university and highlighted that the inaugurated works represent a strategic investment in favor of strengthening Dominican public higher education.
