United States Sextet Remains Undefeated by Defeating DR 3-0 in the U-17 Pan American Cup

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras. – The United States U-17 women's national team maintained its undefeated record in the Pan American Cup by defeating the Dominican Republic three sets to zero this Thursday, in a match corresponding to Group A of the tournament being held at the Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa.

The Americans won with partial scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14, closing the group stage with a perfect record after winning their two matches without conceding sets. With the victory, the United States secured first place in Group A and awaited to know its final position for the next round of the championship. Puerto Rico finished second with a 1-1 record and advanced to the quarterfinals, while the Dominican Republic will compete for the seventh to ninth positions. The North American team showed their offensive power from the first set, quickly taking a 13-3 lead thanks to the attacks of Mesa Jameson, Jael Smith and Naomi Stevenson, against a Dominican squad that could not stop the rival's pace. In the second set, the Caribbean players raised their level of play and found greater offensive stability with the spikes of Shanty Pérez. However, the United States maintained control of the match with the offensive contribution of Piper Coady.

The Dominican Republic team started the third set dominating 7-2, driven by Pérez and captain Leandry Almonte, but the American sextet reacted quickly and tied the score 9-9 with effective blocks by Madlen Gloessner and Coady. From that moment on, the United States regained control and sealed the victory with a powerful spike by McKenzie Andrews.

The statistics reflected the American dominance in attacks (41-22), blocks (9-1) and direct services (10-1). Dominican Republic committed fewer errors, with 12 against the Americans' 22. The top scorers of the match were Mesa Jameson and Piper Coady, both with 14 points for the United States. For the Dominican Republic, Shanty Pérez led the offense with 11 units. After the match, Piper Coady highlighted her team's collective work, especially in blocking and defensive communication, elements she considered key to the North American team's success in the tournament. From her side, Dominican captain Leandry Almonte highlighted the team's fighting spirit throughout the match, ensuring that the group maintained communication and dedication regardless of the score.
