Azua, Dominican Republic. – With the purpose of strengthening the skills of the educational staff of the Southern Axis, the Ministry of Education held a training workshop on the prevention of the use of psychoactive substances, with emphasis on the use of vaporizers, aimed at counselors, psychologists, teachers and administrative staff from different educational centers.
The training day focused on reinforcing knowledge and preventive strategies in the face of the increased use of electronic cigarettes and other substances among adolescents and school-aged youth.
During the meeting, the specialist and member of the National Drug Council, Luis Osterwalder, addressed the consequences of the consumption of prohibited substances, especially electronic cigarettes or “vapes”, highlighting the risks they pose to the physical and mental health of students.
Similarly, graduates Lohadis Ureña and Ángela Ureña, representatives of the Dominican College of Psychologists of the Dominican Republic, spoke about the physical, emotional, and social effects associated with the consumption of psychoactive substances in the student population.
In the activity, the national technicians from the National Directorate of Psychology, Yarina Rojas, Juana Fernández, Susana Méndez and Emely Montero, also participated, who highlighted the importance of early guidance, family support and the implementation of preventive programs that promote healthy lifestyles and safe school environments.
