Santo Domingo.- Former presidential candidate and former Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, stated this Friday that he will seek the Presidency of the Republic in the 2028 elections, after the Fourth Instruction Court of the National District favored him with a dismissal in the Calamar case. Upon leaving the courtroom, Castillo thanked God for the decision issued by Judge Altagracia Ramírez and announced that in the coming days he will offer more extensive statements about the judicial process and his political future. "Today I want to thank Almighty God first. I want to take advantage of you, the media, who reach most of the population, that when I came in here today, the decision that was made didn't matter," he expressed to journalists and supporters. The political leader took the opportunity to reiterate his presidential aspirations for the upcoming elections. "I'm going for everything, I'm going for everything. And I will be the new president in 2028 so that there is more food in all Dominican homes and that the Dominican people have greater well-being," he stated.

The statements were made minutes after the court determined that the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office was not sufficient to support a trial opening against him within the administrative corruption case known as the Calamar case. The judicial decision also favored the former Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ramón Peralta, while other defendants were sent to trial on the merits.
