Santo Domingo.- The meteorological analyst Jean Suriel reported this Tuesday that at least 17 tremors have shaken the Dominican Republic since midnight, including an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 at 5:23 AM, with its epicenter south of Punta Cana, in the Mona Channel with a depth of 164 km.
The authorities of the National Seismology Institute reported that the other micro-earthquakes range between magnitudes of 2.5 and 3.3, classified as mild and of short duration. On June 23, 2025, an earthquake of 5.7 Mw —barely 70 km northeast of Punta Cana and 10 km deep— also shook the east of the country, although it did not cause any reported damage, and was widely felt in several provinces. In addition, in April, a tremor of 4.9 Mw affected La Romana and nearby areas, with its epicenter in the Mona Channel.
