The Southern Phase encompassed officials from San Cristóbal, Barahona, and San Juan de la Maguana
Barahona.- The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), in coordination with the National Institute for Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP), graduated 106 officers of the National Police corresponding to the South Phase of the Connected Detachments program, which trains agents in the use of digital tools.
This second phase was carried out at the Catholic Technological University of Barahona (UCATEBA), and included officers from San Cristóbal, Barahona and San Juan de la Maguana, who received training in digital literacy and basic, intermediate and advanced office automation.
The president of the Board of Directors of INDOTEL, Guido Gómez Mazara, highlighted the importance of the project by stating that: "this program is not limited to the delivery of technological equipment, but seeks to empower the agents of the National Police with the digital tools necessary to serve the population more efficiently, closely and transparently".
The head of INDOTEL indicated that the training of the agents aims to strengthen their technological skills and improve the citizen service in the police detachments so that citizens receive a more modern and efficient service.

While the director of Vocational Training at INFOTEP, Luis Beltré, highlighted the transformative impact of the Connected Detachments program, executed in collaboration with INDOTEL, as an indispensable initiative for the modernization of the National Police.Likewise, Yonaisy Aureliana Urbaez, representing the graduates of the institution of order, stated: “This learning provides us with new tools that will help us offer a better service to society.” For her part, Oneida Félix Medina, governor of Barahona, when giving the opening remarks of the graduation on behalf of the local authorities, welcomed the initiative of the telecommunications regulatory body to train law enforcement officers in the use of digital tools so that they can provide a better service to the population, and said that the knowledge acquired by the police in this training will be vital to improve citizen security. This program will continue to expand into other regions, in line with the State's commitment to promote digital transformation, strengthen citizen security, and ensure that Dominicans receive a better public service. With the completion of this stage, the Connected Detachments program adds 253 officers trained nationwide (147 in the first phase and 106 in the second), consolidating itself as one of the main initiatives aimed at modernizing the National Police and bringing its services closer to the population through digitalization. The certificate presentation ceremony was attended by Ana María Castillo, governor of San Juan de la Maguana, Juan Hilario Guzmán Badía, deputy director of the National Police, and authorities from the South.“The digitalization of our institutions is not a goal, it is a commitment to the present and the future. Training National Police officers in digital literacy and office automation not only modernizes their processes, but also strengthens the bond with the community and their own capacity for reaction and transparency,” expressed Beltré.
Connected Detachments Program
The Connected Detachments program arises from the agreement signed between INDOTEL and INFOTEP in October 2024, through which both institutions committed to implement a national digital literacy plan for police officers. The initiative includes cybersecurity training, information systems management, technological tools applied to security, and soft skills development, with an approximate duration of 55 hours per participant.
