More than two million Dominicans have emerged from monetary poverty, Abinader affirms

Santo Domingo.- At the meeting LA Semanal with the press, President Luis Abinader highlighted that the Dominican Republic has achieved one of the most significant reductions in poverty in recent decades, thanks to the implementation of social, economic, and labor policies focused on the well-being of the population.

“It is due to programs like Supérate, school feeding, job creation, and the increase in the minimum wage in recent years,” explained the Head of State.

Abinader emphasized that this has been the government that has most increased the minimum wage of workers. Likewise, he clarified that the data supporting his statements come from international organizations and not from personal or internal estimates.

In 2024, the most recent records show that general poverty has fallen to 18.98%, and extreme poverty is around 3%, the president explained.

“Con el aumento del salario mínimo esto seguirá mejorando. Reafirmamos el compromiso con la consolidación de una economía más justa e inclusiva para todos los dominicanos",

aseguró el presidente.
He also explained that despite the decrease in growth, "we are an international beacon of light" from 5 to 3, it responds to the international circumstances that have been reflected due to the new policies of the American government. "Around 200,000 children have used school transport, this increases the purchasing power of their parents, improving the family economy", highlighted the president as actions that also contribute to improving the Dominican economy.
