Bonao.- The authorities of Monseñor Nouel province closed this Friday the main rivers and spas in the area as part of a preventive operation, following the issuance of a red alert by the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the National Office of Meteorology (ONAMET), due to the presence of a trough that affects a large part of the country.
The measure was adopted after an emergency meeting held at the Civil Government, headed by Governor Adela Tejada, along with representatives of civil and military institutions. At the meeting, strategies were defined for immediate intervention in vulnerable points, with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of the population.
The operation included a tour of various natural spas in the province, where the authorities verified compliance with the provisions and proceeded to the temporary closure of these spaces. Among the participants in the deployment were the provincial director of Civil Defense, Juan Carlos Velásquez; the environmental prosecutor, Agustín Sasana Galate; and the Cibao Sur regional director of the National Police, general Jesús R. Tejada Tejada, in addition to Politur units and other relief institutions.
“Our priority is to preserve the life of every citizen. It is essential that the population becomes aware of the risks and collaborates by respecting the issued provisions,” stated Governor Adela Tejada during the supervision of the works.
General Tejada Tejada reported that law enforcement forces are stationed at the closed locations to prevent access, and warned of sanctions for those who violate the measures. He also reminded that all excursions and recreational activities in mountain areas, rivers or streams are prohibited during the alert period.
For his part, the director of Civil Defense, Juan Carlos Velásquez, urged citizens to stay informed through official channels and to follow the recommendations of the emergency agencies.
“We ask for understanding and cooperation in these critical moments; we are working for the safety of all,” he/she/they stated.
The environmental prosecutor, Agustín Sasana Galate, called for collective awareness:
“We are all responsible for ensuring the well-being of our communities. Complying with the provisions is a demonstration of commitment to life and safety.”
The authorities reiterated that monitoring will remain active throughout the province and that any eventuality will be addressed with the necessary promptness. In addition, they urged citizens to report any emergency to the official numbers of Civil Defense and the National Police.
